Andrew Muir Dishes Up Warm Tidings with GiveNow Week 2010

Andrew Muir and his team of Good Guys will be lending a helping hand this Christmas as the leading electrical retailer participates in GiveNow Week from 29 November – 5 December 2010.

Held annually, GiveNow Week is an initiative of the Our Community Foundation and aims to encourage individuals, families, businesses and groups to give back to their communities in true Christmas spirit.

A spokesperson from Our Community Foundation explained that Christmas giving was an easy and very rewarding experience.

“You don’t need a lot of money in the bank to be able to contribute to your community. Little things such as giving clothes or food to a local charity, volunteering your time, becoming an organ donor or even adopting a pet are all great examples of simple but rewarding giving activities.”

“While GiveNow week is a great kick start into the Christmas giving period, we need to remember that providing better support for our communities isn’t just exclusive to the business community or the festive season. There are many ways for individuals and families to give back to their local area all year long.”

Andrew Muir and The Good Guys are keen to carol the GiveNow tune as stores around the country call upon shoppers to get behind the GiveNow effort by supporting their in-store giving tree that will see non-perishable food items returned to local community organisations in time for Christmas.

The Good Guys will also be supporting a Cause For Gift Cards initiative that will see 50c from each gift card sold during Christmas returned to Assistance Guide Dogs Australia.

Mr Muir said that The Good Guys stores provide ongoing support to local community partners throughout the year through their Local Giving Program but understands that Christmas can be an extra tough time of years for those less fortunate.

“Our Local Giving Program runs 365 days a year, but this is always a good time to remind shoppers of the true meaning of Christmas,” said Andrew.

“The Food Giving Tree is our own special way of assisting local community organisations, so be sure to show your support as we will be accepting donations between now and the 20 December,” he said.

Customers can donate food in store at The Good Guys throughout December. Food items most in demand are those that can be used as ingredients in meals that are prepared daily. These include canned vegetables, canned meat, canned fish and canned fruit.

The Good Guys Local Giving Program is run by The Good Guys Foundation, which sees a percentage from every transaction made in store and online donated back to local community organisations. Customers are invited to have their say by voting for their preferred charity each time they made a purchase in store.
